The initiative is the result of a partnership between the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz), the Traditional Communities Forum (FCT), the Observatory of Sustainable and Healthy Territories of Bocaina (OTSS), the Universidade Federal Fluminense (UFF) and the Universidade Estadual Paulista (UNESP).


The EITS represents a historic milestone in the articulation of scientific and traditional knowledge for the territorial promotion of health and sustainable development. We will position traditional communities and peoples at the center of global climate discussions , especially with a view to COP 30 , which will be held in Brazil in 2025.

Graduated in Social Service from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro and master in Political Science from the École de Hautes Etudes en Science Sociales. He has worked at Redes da Maré since 2018. He currently coordinates the Right to Health Axis, created in 2022, as a result of the work carried out during the pandemic with innovative and successful projects such as Conexão Saúde and Vacina Maré


is a representative of indigenous peoples from the provinces of Chiloé and Palena in the regional commission for the use of the coast of the Lakes Region, in Chile, and coordinator of the Network of Original Women for the Defense of the Sea. She also acts as a representative of the organization Identidade Territorial Lafkenche in the Region of Los Lagos.

Givânia Maria da Silva
She is a quilombola, teacher, parliamentarian, public manager, researcher and black activist, as well as one of the founders of the National Coordination of Articulation of Black Quilombola Rural Communities (Conaq). He is also one of the main Brazilian leaders and a reference in studies on quilombola education, being part of the Brazilian Association of Black Researchers (ABPN).

Pasqual Barreti
He has been Rector of the Universidade Estadual Paulista (Unesp) since 2021. Graduated in Medicine, he has a master's degree and PhD in Pathophysiology in Clinical Medicine from Unesp, area of concentration in Nephrology (1990 and 1997). Among other achievements, he was President of the Foundation for Medical and Hospital Development (2005 to 2015) and Director of the Faculty of Medicine of Botucatu (2015 to 2019).

Timóteo Verá Tupã Popygua
Guarani Mbya leadership, learned and thought during the paths he took through the “Ka'a porã”, the Atlantic Forest', together with his people. His book “The Earth is One” brings together narratives from the Guarani Mbya about the origin of the land, human beings, language and the animals and plants of the Atlantic Forest told, for the first time, by a Guarani Mbya without the intermediary of a “juruá ”, not indigenous.

Mario Moreira
He is President of Fiocruz, a PhD in Public Policy from the Federal University of Paraná and a master's degree in public health from the Sergio Arouca National School of Public Health (Ensp/Fiocruz) and in Technology and Innovation Management from the University of Sussex, United Kingdom. He also has an MBA in Public Management from Fundação Getúlio Vargas.

Victor Vargas Filgueira
Researcher of the Yagan culture, to which he belongs, artisan and guide at the End of the World Museum. He was Advisor to the Yagán Paiakoala Indigenous Community of Tierra del Fuego, created in 2014 and recognized by Argentina in 2021. It is part of the extension program for schools to disseminate Yagan culture. He has two published books: My Yagán Blood and Um Legado Yagán.

Adriana Lima
Head advisor for the Caiçara segment at the National Council of Traditional Peoples and Communities, she is a popular educator, local researcher, environmental monitor and popular legal promoter, has a degree in Pedagogy and integrates different articulation spaces for Caiçara communities from the National Coordination of Caiçara Traditional Communities; Forum of Traditional Peoples and Communities of Vale do Ribeira (SP) and CONFREM Brasil.

Francisco Piyako
He is an Advisory Advisor for the Park. Serra do Divisor National Park (PNSD). He works in several institutions defending indigenous interests such as territorial, environmental, linguistic and sociocultural rights. He was an advisor to the Acre Pro-Indian Commission and coordinator of projects such as: Yurúa, Nossas Futuras Florestas, Amazônia Appeal, among others. He was an advisor to the presidency of the National Indian Foundation (FUNAI).
